IBM FlashSystem is IBM’s offering for SAN Storage, ranging from the entry-level FS5015 to the top-of-the-line FS9500. All FlashSystems run the operating system Spectrum Virtualise, ensuring consistency in day-to-day use and interactions across the lineup. This eliminates the need for additional end-user skills if you switch to a different FlashSystem. IBM FlashSystem also boasts an extensive array of security features, including immutable copies to keep your data secure.
Moreover, IBM offers industry-leading FlashCore Modules (FCM), enabling high-capacity NVMe storage with on-disk compression, deduplication and anomaly detection processing. This offers up to 3:1 compression, intelligent chip management, extending the lifetime of storage components and for the potential early detection of a ransomware attack. FCMs provide incredibly fast and storage dense solutions, with capacities ranging from 4.8 TB raw, 21.99 TB compressed, to 38.4 TB raw, 115.2 TB compressed.
Security on FlashSystem
IBM recognises that cyber resiliency should start at the storage level. As a result, IBM has implemented an array of security functions into the FlashSystem lineup. These include real-time monitoring to help detect ransomware and immutable copies. This combination enables ransomware to be detected on the storage before the attack is fully executed. It also allows for immutable copies to be taken, quarantined and deployed to a safe environment. This ensures the data is free from any malicious software before reverting your main infected storage to a checked and safe copy.
With the recent addition of the IBM FlashCore Module 4, anomaly detection processing has been moved to the “disk” itself, relieving the workload from the storage array, increasing overall efficiency.
Other security features include multi-factor authentication, encryption, two-person integrity, and role-based access control. These features ensure security from potential threats both inside and outside your organisation.
